Steps to Search for Animal Owners:

1. Search the area where you found the animals for "lost animal" signs.
2. Place signs within a minimum of two-miles where you found the animal.
3. If the animal is wearing a rabies tag call the veterinarian's office listed and give them the number; they will be able to give you the owner's information.
4. Take the animal to a veterinarian or rescue organization to have it scanned for a microchip. Be sure to ask the place if their scanner is universal or chip brand specific. It will be important to find a universal scanner.
5. Take the animal or pictures of the animal to veterinarian offices surrounding the areas where they were found. Ask if they recognize the animal as a client. Also check their bulletin boards for missing animals.
6. Call Man & Beast to report a lost animal (210) 590-7387, look on Craigslist, look at SApets.com for lost pets, look in the newspaper, check and post on sadoglist.com, and any other resources you may be able to turn up. You can also place a free ad in the San Antonio Express News for found animals.

Update on Dasher

Since The Big Fix our Dasher has put on over 30 pounds. His skin condition has cleared up quite a bit, and his fur is growing back nicely. His paws no longer look like ostrich claws. He has been diagnosed with heartworms and a hip injury which is probably the result of being hit by a car. He will undergo surgery soon to correct his hip and get altered. Once he has recovered from his surgery he will begin heartworm treatment. He is sweet and very well-adjusted; he is housebroken and crate-trained and very intelligent. Dasher gets along with all dogs and humans and is always up for playtime.

Animal Cruelty Report

Here is the email I sent yesterday to the animal control officer we know...

I found this dead dog on the way to work on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 7:15 am. It was located in a vacant lot on Commerce street between San Jacinto and Trinity. It appeared to have been dumped there. There were no apparent signs of starvation or external injuries. The circumstances of the animal's death seem suspicious. I reported it to 311 at approximately 7:45 am for dead animal pick-up. By 2:00 pm the dog had been removed from the lot. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
